Watch: India thrashed Australia in the second ODI of the three-match series, in Indore on September 24 to take an unassailable 2-0 lead heading into the third and final game of the series.

India were put into bat in the second match after registering an easy victory while chasing in the first. Prasidh Krishna replaced Jasprit Bumrah, who returned home for personal reasons.

Australia made wholesale changes: Steve Smith led the side in place of Pat Cummins, who was rested, and Josh Hazlewood and Alex Carey replaced Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh.

After Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed cheaply for eight, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer counterattacked to add 200 for the second wicket at more than seven runs per over.

Gill scored his fifth ODI century of the year and Iyer his first, as both batters made merry on what looked like a flat surface at that point of time.

India’s middle order came good as well. KL Rahul scored another half-century (52 off 38), as did Suryakumar Yadav (72 not out of 37). India finished one short of 400, registering their highest ODI total against Australia.

Prasidh started brilliantly with the ball for India, taking two wickets in his first over, including Smith first ball. David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne then stitched a 80-run third-wicket partnership before R Ashwin spun a web with his carrom balls and sliders.

A rain break changed Australia’s target to 317 in 33 overs. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja then turned back the clock, finding some grip in the surface to rip through the Australian middle order. A late assault from Sean Abbott and Josh Hazlewood took Australia past 200,  yet they lost the game by 99 runs, making it their fifth straight defeat in ODIs.
