SL vs AFG ODI squads: Full team list and injury updates for Sri Lanka v Afghanistan ODIs

Sri Lanka are playing Afghanistan in an ODI series from February 9. Here are the SL vs AFG ODIs 2024 squads, including full team lists and injury updates.

The first match of the series will be played on February 9, followed by the second ODI on February 11 and the third ODI on February 14. The Pallekele International Stadium will host all the clashes.

Sri Lanka won the one-off Test match, courtesy Prabath Jayasuriya’s 8-174 across the two innings. The focus now shifts to the ODIs.

Afghanistan’s most recent meetup with Sri Lanka in the format was during the 2023 World Cup, when they beat the 1996 world champions by seven wickets to seal a famous victory. Fazalhaq Farooqi was named Player of the Match for his spell of 4-34.

Afghanistan have named a 15-member squad led by Hashmatullah ShahidiRashid Khan is still recovering from a back surgery he underwent last year after the World Cup 2023 and is unavailable for the series. Qais Ahmad, who has played a single ODI so far, will fill in for Rashid in Sri Lanka.

Noor Ahmad, who is currently representing the Durban Super Giants in the SA20 2024, is set to link up with the national team and will miss the final stages of the league.  Najibullah Zadran, who was part of Afghanistan’s World Cup contingent, was omitted, while Abdul Rahman was named in the reserves. Pacer Mohammad Saleem was ruled out due to a hamstring strain.

All-rounder Gulbadin Naib has earned a recall into the ODI set-up for his impressive outing in the recently held T20I series in India. Fareed Ahmad also made it to the 15-player contingent. Both featured in the reserves during the 2023 World Cup.

Naveed Zadran, who had an impressive Test debut against Sri Lanka also broke into the ODI squad. The uncapped pacer has played six List-A matches so far, picking up eight wickets.
