Talking of overall numbers, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have faced each other 12 times in the format, with Afghanistan winning four and the Sri Lankans registering seven wins.
Meanwhile, the only game that didn’t produce a result was from Afghanistan’s previous ODI tour of the island nation in 2022-23, when rain abandoned the second match.
In that series, Afghanistan started with a win courtesy of a 120-ball 106 from Ibrahim Zadran, followed by the rain-hit game before Charith Asalanka’s unbeaten 83 off 72 balls helped the hosts to gun down 314 for the loss of six wickets in the third match that went down the wire. The series was tied 1-1.
