Jacks’ century was an unlikely end to RCB’s chase, having come in during the fourth over of the innings and reached 17 off as many balls by the first ball of the 11th over. At the same point at the other end, Kohli had reached his half century off 32 balls, leading RCB’s charge to chase 201 to secure back-to-back victories. However, from there, Jacks began to accelerate.
He hit the first six of his innings off the third ball of Mohit Sharma’s 11th over and followed up with a four two balls later. At the beginning of the 14th over, Jacks was on 44 off 29 balls, before unleashing again against Mohit, hitting three sixes and a four from his over. That over took him ahead of Kohli, on 72 off 36 at the end of it. RCB needed 24 from the final five overs of the match, Jacks needed 28 to reach three figures.
After Kohli took a single off the first ball of the over, Jacks hit back-to-back sixes, both pulled over deep square leg. A four through the same area followed, meaning back-to-back sixes would give Jacks his century and RCB the win. He drilled the first over fine leg to take him to 94 and level the scores. The shot drew laughter from Kohli at the other end, who put his hand over his mouth in disbelief at his partner’s striking. Jacks then heaved across the line off the next ball to bring up a 41-ball hundred, and seal the win for RCB.
