Watch: New Zealand opener Tim Seifert made a full-length dive to play at an extremely wide ball by Mohammad Amir during the fifth Pakistan-New Zealand T20I in Lahore yesterday (April 27).

Chasing 179 to win the series 3-1, New Zealand didn’t have the best of starts when Tom Blundell was bowled by Shaheen Afridi in the first over. Seifert then stitched a 76-run second-wicket partnership with Michael Bracewell which brought the visitors back in the game.

During his 33-ball knock of 52, Seifert was especially harsh on Mohammad Amir. He smashed the left-arm seamer for a six and two fours in the fourth over, before hitting him for another boundary on the first ball of the sixth over. The next ball threw up something interesting.

Seifert started backing away towards the leg side as soon as the ball was delivered, indicating he had premeditated the movement. The ball, however, was angled wide outside off from over the wicket. With both his legs well outside the leg stump, Seifert soon realised that he wouldn’t be able to reach the ball from his position and ended up making a full-length dive with his arms and bat outstretched in an attempt to make contact.

Even that didn’t suffice as the ball went well past the wide line while Seifert fell face-first on the ground with a part of his body outside the pitch.

Amir followed it up with another wide, before Seifert hit him for a four on the next ball. He reached his fifty off 30 balls before being dismissed by Usama Mir in the ninth over. Eventually New Zealand collapsed as they finished nine runs short of Pakistan’s total.
