Watch: Jasprit Bumrah claimed an unlikely wicket for pace on Day One of the first Test in the India v England series at Hyderabad, drawing an under-edge from Rehan Ahmed with a clever slower ball.

After a positive start from Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, and a 61-run partnership between Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, England collapsed after Lunch to India’s three spinners. They slipped to 137-6 with the wicket of Ben Foakes, which brought Ahmed to the crease playing in his second Test match.

Earlier in the day, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj had leaked runs in their opening spell. They shared an eight-over burst which conceded 41 runs to Duckett and Crawley – Bumrah the more economical with 12 runs coming off his four overs. Pace was promptly taken off and replaced with spin, a decision which was rewarded with wickets almost immediately.

After England’s collapse, Bumrah was brought back on in the 47th over of the innings. Coming on to bowl the next, his third ball to Ahmed was a beauty. He bowled a well-disguised slower-ball, which surprised Ahmed and left him hanging his bat out wide of off stump with the ball yet to reach him. The ball cut back in off the pitch and took his under edge, carrying through to Srikar Bharat behind the stumps, who put in a well-judged catch, falling to his left.

The wicket left England 155-7 before Tea, and brought debutant Tom Hartley to the crease alongside Ben Stokes.
