Watch highlights of KKR vs PBKS: Punjab Kings chased down the highest target in T20s against Kolkata Knight Riders, courtesy of an unbeaten hundred from Jonny Bairstow on Friday (April 26).

Runfests in IPL 2024 continued as more than 500 runs were amassed for the third time in IPL 2024, this time between KKR and PBKS at the Eden Gardens. In a blazing batting display, Punjab gunned down 262 with eight balls and eight wickets in hand to record the highest ever successful chase in T20 cricket. The previous record belonged to South Africa, who chased 259 against the West Indies at Centurion last year.

Punjab hit 24 sixes, six more than the home side had managed, to set a combined record for most sixes (42) in a T20 match.

Bairstow was the lead architect of Punjab’s batting blitzkrieg: he roared back to form with an unbeaten 108 off 48, including a spree where he smacked five consecutive boundaries against Anukul Roy. Shashank Singh, one of Punjab’s finds this year, smacked 68 not out in 28 balls, including eight massive hits over the park.

Prabhsimran Singh kick-started Punjab’s batting reply, powering his team to their highest ever powerplay score of 93-1. Substituted in for Arshdeep Singh in the second innings, he clobbered 54 off 20 balls, including a 23-run third over against KKR debutant Dushmantha Chameera. He hit five sixes and four fours, including a scoop over fine-leg off Chameera.

Amidst all the KKR bowlers who leaked runs incessantly, Sunil Narine stood tall with figures of 1-24 off four overs after hammering 71 in 32 balls in an opening stand of 138 in 10.2 overs to continue his purple patch with the bat. Partnering with him, Phil Salt also rushed to 75 from 37 to propel KKR to 261-6. But it all went in vain.
