Virat Kohli had to leave the field for a brief bit during the high-voltage outing between India and Pakistan on October 14 after he wore the wrong India jersey.

After the toss, the two teams came out for the customary pre-match national anthems. As the hosts were passionately chanting their anthem, Kohli was seen sporting a jersey different from the rest. Although India’s official World Cup 2023 jersey has three white-coloured stripes on the shoulders, Kohli sported one without the tri-colour inspired by the national flag.

Although he took the field, he later went back to the dressing room to don the correct attire immediately, with Ishan Kishan replacing him.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first in the mouthwatering encounter. Shubman Gill, who missed the first two matches because of contracting dengue, was back in the lineup. Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur continued to get the nod over tweaker Ravichandran Ashwin.

India entered this match after sound victories in their opening clashes against Australia and Afghanistan. Kohli has looked in fine form lately. He scored two successive match-winning fifties. The first one came when India were reeling at 2-3 at the start while chasing 200. He partnered with KL Rahul to put up a 165-run partnership, helping his team to seal off the game by six wickets. Kohli finished with an unbeaten 55 (56) while playing in New Delhi against Afghanistan.
