Mushfiqur Rahim kicks over his own stumps | BAN vs NZ

Watch: Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim suffered an unfortunate dismissal yesterday (September 26) as he accidentally kicked his stumps while attempting to stop the ball bouncing back onto the wicket in Mirpur.

After Bangladesh were reduced to 35-3 in the first power play while batting first in the third ODI against New Zealand, Mushfiqur partnered with Najmul Hossain Shanto to steady the ship. When it looked like the hosts had recovered from the early blows, reaching 88-3, they were rocked by an unfortunate yet comical dismissal.

Coming to bowl the 15th over, New Zealand skipper Lockie Ferguson hurled an in-swinger which darted back in after pitching on a hard length. Mushfiqur tried to defend the ball with soft hands, but the ball breached his defence after taking an inside edge off his bat. As the ball bounced back towards the stumps, the 36-year-old tried to deflect the ball away to save his wicket. In the process, he accidentally kicked his stumps and stood in disbelief before departing for 18(25).

Will Young was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his 80-ball 70, helping his side chase the target of 172 in 34.5 overs.
