ICC Test rankings update: Pope makes massive jump, Root closes in on top all-rounder spot

ICC Test rankings update
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

The ICC Test rankings have seen some major shuffling following two intense Test matches at the Gabba and in Hyderabad last week.

Updates from the India-England Test

Ollie Pope, who scored a stunning 196 in the second innings of the Hyderabad Test, has made a massive jump in the Test batter rankings. He now sits 15th on the list, making a move of 20 spots, and achieving a career-high rating. Ben Duckett has also made a move up, gaining five spots to 22nd. The Test batter rankings continue to be led by Kane Williamson.

Jasprit Bumrah has moved up from fifth to fourth on the bowler rankings following his impressive outing on a turning surface in Hyderabad. R Ashwin, meanwhile, has strengthened his position at the top, having taken six wickets in the first Test against England.

In the all-rounder rankings, Joe Root has moved up one place to fourth following his five wickets with the ball in Hyderabad. Ravindra Jadeja, meanwhile, leads the all-rounder rankings.

Updates from the Australia-West Indies Test

Usman Khawaja has jumped to eighth from 10th in the batter rankings after his half-century against West Indies at the Gabba. Marnus Labuschagne, on the other hand, has moved down six places to tenth.

The big story from the Australia vs West Indies Test, however, was that of Shamar Joseph. The Guyanese quick bowled West Indies to victory almost single-handedly, taking seven wickets in the second innings of the Gabba Test. His performance has seen him enter the top 50 of the Test bowler rankings. Joseph has jumped 42 spots to be joint 50th.

He is not the only West Indian fast bowler to have improved his ranking, though. Alzarri Joseph has moved up four places to 33rd, while Kemar Roach has moved up two places to 17th.
