Highlights: West Indies secured a historic victory at the Gabba on the fourth day of the second Australia-West Indies Test.

West Indies set a target of 216 for the hosts on the third evening of the game after getting bowled out for 193 in their second innings. Australia started day four on 60-2, with Steve Smith and Cameron Green at the crease.

Shamar Jospeh, who made his debut in the first match of the series in Adelaide, had suffered a toe injury on the third day while batting. There were doubts over his participation on day four, but as the West Indies captain revealed after the game, he was given the go-ahead an hour before the start of play.

Green and Smith started in solid manner as they stretched their partnership to 71 before the all-rounder was cleaned up a rising Joseph delivery. Travis Head, who bagged a golden duck in the first innings, was bowled for another one in the second, registering a king pair.

Joseph then removed Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey in quick succession as well, reducing the hosts to 136-6. Mitchell Starc, batting at No.8, counter-attacked with Smith, scoring 21 off just 14 balls, before he too was removed by Joseph .

Smith stood firmly at one end as he saw himself run out of partners at the other. The ninth wicket fell with Australia still needing 25 runs. The last-wicket pair added 16 before Joseph picked his seventh wicket, knocking over Josh Hazlewood’s off stump and securing their first Test victory on Australian soil since 1997.
