Watch highlights: The IPL saw yet another 250-plus score, but the Delhi Capitals managed to defend it, clinching a vital ten-run win over Mumbai Indians in Delhi.

A day after Punjab Kings razed down 262, the greatest chase in T20 history, Mumbai came close to hunting down another mammoth total. They hit 55 off the last three overs, but still fell short despite posting their highest ever total in IPL.

The day game began with fireworks from Jake Fraser-McGurk, the 22-year-old Australia sensation. Opening the batting with Abhishek Porel, he smashed 13 runs off the first three balls, racing to a 15-ball fifty, the fastest in this IPL and joint with his own record against SRH. He finished on 84 off 27, but Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs then carried the good work. Luke Wood, playing his first IPL game, conceded 1-68, the most by an overseas player in the tournament’s history, joint with Reece Topley from earlier this season.

Hope’s 41 off 17 and Stubbs’ 48 off 25 carried the Capitals to 257-4, their highest score in IPL history. It’s the eighth 250-plus score of the season.

In response, Mumbai Indians managed 65-3 in the powerplay, before Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya’s blitz pushed them close to 150. However, there was little support from the rest, and although Tim David pounded 37 (17), Mumbai left too much towards the end, leaving them a lot to catch up.

Needing 25 off the final over, Mumbai would have pinned their hopes on Varma, looking in fine touch, but his run out off the first ball of the over extinguished those chances. Rasikh Salam was the top performer with the ball, taking 3-34, while Mukesh Kumar also took a three-wicket haul.

The win took Capitals to the fifth spot: languishing at the bottom at one point, they have won four out of their last five games. Mumbai, on the other hand, have now slipped to ninth on the points table, losing three out of their last four matches.
