Team Selector: Pick your India XI for the South Africa Tests

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Team Selector: India’s Test series against South Africa is all set to commence from December 26. Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli will be looking to field their strongest playing XI for the game, but it will be a while until the side is confirmed.

You on the other hand, can take that call right away!

This is the first time India are visiting South Africa since 2018. While they won the ODI and T20I series that year, Test success eluded them. There were several controversial selection calls on the part of the management, such as dropping Ajinkya Rahane from the first two Tests, and dropping Bhuvneshwar Kumar, for the second Test.

Kohli is a vastly experienced skipper now, but he’ll need to select the right side. While South Africa aren’t the same Test force of old, they are still a very good side at home. With the return of the likes of Duanne Olivier, the South Africa pace attack will be set to fire on all cylinders during the home summer.

What will be your selection calls for the first Test?

Will Ajinkya Rahane continue to find a place in your line-up or will you take a call between Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer? What will be the look of your pace attack? Will Ravichandran Ashwin find a place in your side or will you prefer to take a four-man pace attack?

India squad: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma (vc), Rishabh Pant (wk), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur
