India v England, 5th T20I preview: Probable XI, pitch & weather forecast

India England 5th T20I at Ahmedabad on March 20.
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

After four closely fought games, the series has come down to the decider with India and England set to play the 5th T20I on Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

England have thrived in phases, but have also been exposed in certain areas by India in this series so far. The bowling has found a key player in Mark Wood while the batting has lived off strong starts from Jason Roy or Jos Buttler or both. For India, Virat Kohli has played a couple of handy knocks, but it is the emergence of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan that will make the home side most happy.

The trend of the team winning the toss choosing to bat second and winning the game broke off last game as India defended a total, only just, under lights, after three consecutive wins by the chasing side in the first three matches.

Pitch conditions

The dew factor seemed to have amplified last game, although the sluggishness in the pitch meant that India could still get away with pace off the ball and cutters. It is expected to play along similar lines on Saturday.

Weather forecast

Temperature is expected to hover around mid-30s on Saturday with humidity at about 24 per cent.

India v England: Team news

India

India made some telling changes for the fourth T20I, sitting out Yuzvendra Chahal and another forced change with Ishan Kishan having a groin injury. Chahal is likely to remain on the sidelines with Rahul Chahar’s extra pace posing more questions. Kishan, though, might find it hard to squeeze back in after Suryakumar’s stellar maiden innings and Shreyas Iyer’s cameo from down the order. One option is leaving out KL Rahul, who has struggled hugely for form recently, but that would be a big call.

England

England have stuck to their guns with the selections so far this series, but one issue that might bother them is that their finishing act has been below par with the bat. Sam Curran, who has been reasonably good without being outstanding, could be the one player under scrutiny ahead of the final game. Moeen Ali, yet to get a chance this series, could come in for Curran as the finisher and as an additional bowling option. The tourists are unlikely to make any other changes for the final game, though Mark Wood’s fitness will always need close monitoring. He was left out after the first T20I due to a bruised heel, and has now played two games on the bounce bowling as fast as he ever has.

India v England 5th T20I predicted XI
