IND vs AUS, 2nd ODI: Team news

India have released Jasprit Bumrah for the second ODI as he went to visit his family. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been roped in as his cover. However, Bumrah will join the squad for the third ODI in Rajkot. Pacer Prasidh Krishna comes in the eleven as his replacement.

Leading the side in the first two ODIs, KL Rahul has found his batting mojo back as he struck an unbeaten 58 (33) in the last encounter. Shreyas Iyer will continue to get the backing at the No.4 slot. Meanwhile, veteran off-spinner R Ashwin who made a return to India’s ODI World Cup plans after 20 months, should retain his spot. Ashwin was seen batting in the nets the moment after his team’s five-wicket win in the opening fixture, a sign of India wanting to maximise the output from the tail.

Australia would like to fine-tune their team combination ahead of the marquee event as several players who missed the tour to South Africa have returned. Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell continue to be unavailable for selection. Steve Smith to lead the side in the absence of a skipper Pat Cummins. Josh Hazlewood, Spencer Johnson and Alex Carey have come in place of Cummins, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis.

IND vs AUS, 2nd ODI: Playing XIs

Match prediction – Today’s India-Australia live match

As India are approaching the quadrennial event, the boxes are gradually getting checked in every game. Suryakumar Yadav repaid the team’s faith in him by notching up 50 (49) on a winning cause in the first match, addressing one of the major concerns ahead of the World Cup. The home team should be wary of Australia’s ‘going hard at the start’ batting approach, a ploy they have used well in recent times.

It will be a neck-to-neck battle despite Australia losing the curtain-raiser game.
