India’s victory over Australia in the first ODI at Mohali has seen them take top spot in the ICC ODI team rankings, making them the second team in history to be ranked top in all three formats simultaneously.

The pole position in ODI rankings has changed hands several times in recent weeks, with Pakistan and Australia both ranked top at points.

India, despite winning the Asia Cup, came into the three-match series against the Aussies ranked behind Pakistan, but victory in the first game has seen them reach 116 points, one more than their arch-rivals.

While India haven’t won either of the first two World Test Championships, losing to New Zealand and then Australia, they are marginally ahead of the latter in the ICC Test team rankings. They are also top of the T20I charts, despite their lack of success in T20 World Cups.

India are the second team in history to be the best side in the world, according to the ICC, in all three formats at the same time, with South Africa ranked No.1 in all three when they took the Test mace off England in August 2012.

India seemed to have pulled off the feat earlier this year, when the ICC website listed them as the No.1 ranked Test side for a matter of hours before updating to show Australia in top spot. This was attributed to a glitch, with India now top in all three without any technical malfunctions.

India’s top-spot-sealing victory was a routine one, with Mohammed Shami claiming five wickets to keep Australia to 276 before half-centuries for Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav sealing the win. India are 2/1 favourites to win the World Cup with Betway.
