Virat Kohli and Quinton de Kock have moved up in the ICC Men’s ODI player rankings after impressive performances in their respective World Cup opening matches, while Josh Hazlewood is now the sole top-ranked bowler in the format.

The ICC updated their rankings following the first week of competition at the 2023 World Cup, with several changes in the top ten. Kohli now sits in seventh position in the batting rankings after his 85 off 116 balls against Australia. Just above him, de Kock has risen one place to No.6 in the standings after his century against Sri Lanka.

England’s Dawid Malan is also a big mover, climbing seven places and breaking into the top ten in eighth place. He scored a magnificent 140 in England’s second match of the tournament against Bangladesh on October 10, his fourth century of the year in the format. His ratings of 711 is a career-high, and he sits just four points behind Kohli.

Aiden Markram and KL Rahul have also moved up in the standings. Rahul hit a match-winning unbeaten 97 against Australia which sees him move up 15 places to 19th. Markram smashed the fastest ever hundred in the World Cup, against Sri Lanka, and moves up 11 spots to 21st.

There has also been change in the bowling rankings with Hazlewood now the outright No.1 ODI bowler in the world, having previously jointly held the position with Mohammad Siraj. Hazlewood took 3-38 against India, including two wickets in his first over. Meanwhile, Siraj has dropped five points in the bowling rankings despite finishing with 1-26 against Australia.

The New Zealand pace duo Tent Boult and Matt Henry have moved inside the top ten, with impressive performances in the Black Caps’ first two matches.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan holds his position as the top ranked allrounder in the standings. Mitchell Santner is the only new all-rounder in the top ten after taking the first five-wicket-haul of the tournament against the Netherlands.
