Watch: Josh Hazlewood struck twice in his opening over against India to leave the hosts reeling at 2-3 in their opening World Cup match, after they bowled Australia out for 199.

Mitchell Starc had already dismissed Ishan Kishan for a golden duck in the first over of the chase, before Hazlewood began his spell from the other end. He bowled two dot balls to Rohit Sharma first up before bowling a beauty with his third. The ball was full and pitched just outside off, but came in sharply to rap the India captain on his front pad. After the umpire raised his finger, Rohit sent the decision upstairs for review.

Despite how far the ball came back in off the pitch, the impact was umpire’s call clipping the top of leg stump, and Rohit had to depart for a duck with India 2-2.

That wicket brought Shreyas Iyer to the crease in his first World Cup match. He again played out two dots to Hazlewood before falling to his third delivery. Hazlewood bowled a length ball which Iyer attempted to drive, throwing his hands at the ball with his bat well away from his body, but striking it straight to David Warner at short cover.

Warner threw the ball up in the air with a roar of celebration, the third India batter out for a duck within the first two overs of the chase. At 3-2, India have never lost their first three wickets for fewer runs in an ODI before. It was also a welcome return to World Cup cricket for Hazlewood, who last played in the tournament in 2015 before not being selected in 2019.
