by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Afghanistan will begin their campaign in the 2023 Cricket World Cup on October 7. Here is the full Afghanistan World Cup schedule, including venues and match timings.

The 2023 men’s ODI World Cup starts on October 5 with a repeat of the 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad. The warm-up matches will start a week earlier, from September 29.

Afghanistan will begin their World Cup campaign in Dharamshala with a match against Bangladesh. They will play their nine league games across seven venues in India, with Delhi and Chennai being the only venues where they’ll play multiple matches.

Afghanistan crashed out of the group stages in the 2023 Asia Cup after having miscalculated a net run rate equation in the game against Sri Lanka. They don’t have a lot of good form coming into the World Cup and would like to get their plans and tactics in order in the two warm-up games they’ll play before the main event starts.

Afghanistan would be bolstered by the returns of Naveen-ul-Haq and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai to their World Cup squad as they prepare to perform better than their last two appearances in the tournament’s history.
