Watch: Jadeja makes rare lapse, gets off-stump knocked over as Murphy’s dream debut continues

Ravindra Jadeja was cleaned up by Todd Murphy early on day 3

Watch: Ravindra Jadeja was castled by Todd Murphy early on day 3. The former left the ball alone, only to see it crash into the top of off stump.

The dismissal occurred on the second ball of the 119th over. Until that point, Jadeja had looked comfortable and had been leaving balls outside off stump very well. In fact, he shouldered arms to one a ball ago, and had been vindicated.

On this occasion, however, he grossly miscalculated the lack of spin and was dismissed. The ball pitched on a length just outside off stump and continued with the arm. Jadeja played for the turn and shouldered arms, only to see the ball thud into off stump.

Jadeja could not quite believe what had happened and trudged off the field after being dismissed. Before that, however, he had helped India establish a commanding position in the Test. On the first day, he picked up a five-wicket haul and followed it up with a gritty knock on the second.

Jadeja was eventually being dismissed for 70. At the time of writing, India are 349-8 with Axar Patel on 62 and Mohammed Shami on 14.

Murphy became the 15th Australian bowler to take six wickets in an innings on Test debut (including Bob Massie in each innings). The last two to achieve this feat are Murphy’s captain Pat Cummins and teammate Scott Boland.
