Watch: Amelia Kerr cops rare five-run penalty by catching ball with towel in WBBL
Watch: Amelia Kerr conceded a rare five-run penalty for catching the ball with a towel in the WBBL 2023 match between Brisbane Heat and Sidney Sixers on November 2 (today).
At the end of nine overs during the Sixers’ chase of 177, Kerr came to bowl her second over of the day.
Off the second delivery, she fielded a throw from deep long-on with the towel she had used to dry the ball, incurring five-penalty runs as law 28.2.1.2 states that it is illegal if a fielder “extends his/ her clothing with his/ her hands and uses this to field the ball”.
The mistake proved costly for the Heat as Maitlan Brown (21* off 15) and Mathilda Carmichael (28* off 20) got the Sixers over the finish line with a ball to spare to keep their finals hopes alive.
