Cricket headlines from around the world, all collected in one space – here’s Wisden’s daily wrap of stories and updates from the cricketing ecosphere.

Zimbabwe knocked out of World Cup race

Zimbabwe suffered a heartbreak against Scotland in the World Cup Qualifier, losing to them in a must-win game to bow out of the World Cup race. With Sri Lanka having already qualified, it’s now a clash between Scotland and the Netherlands for a spot in the final.

Cummins shuts down Spirit of Cricket chatter

Pat Cummins has come hard at all those who have been citing Spirit of Cricket to question Alex Carey’s stumping of Jonny Bairstow in the Ashes Test match, at Lord’s.

“I don’t think a conversation about the spirit of cricket even comes into a dismissal like that. It was plain and simple a stumping,” said Cummins, calling it a “non-event”.

Simon Taufel has his say too

Former ICC Elite Umpire Simon Taufel isn’t too pleased about bringing in Spirit of Cricket over a legitimate dismissal either. Calling out the “hypocrisy” via a LinkedIn post, he asked whether England had considered retiring out Ben Duckett when they disagreed with Mitchell Starc’s catch earlier in the Test.

Balbirnie steps down

Andy Balbirnie stepped down as Ireland white-ball captain after his side failed to make it to the Super Sixes of the ICC World Cup Qualifier. Paul Stirling has been named interim skipper.

Agarkar named chief selector

Former India quick Ajit Agarkar has been named the Chair of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. The committee now consists of Agarkar, Shiv Sundar Das, Salil Ankola, Sridharan Sharath and Subroto Banerjee.

Holder and Joseph return

Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder returned to the Caribbean early from the World Cup Qualifier with two matches yet to go. The West Indies are out of World Cup contention; the Test side will face India starting July 12.

Yash Dhull to lead India A in Emerging teams men’s Asia Cup 2023

Delhi batter Yash Dhull, who led India to the U19 World Cup title last year, will be captaining the India A team at the Emerging teams men’s Asia Cup 2023, to be held in Sri Lanka this month.
