All those lockdown videos have clearly done the trick. Monty Panesar had described his dismissal of Tendulkar in 2012 as the “best delivery in the world”; at that time, he was at the helm of England’s spin attack, and Tendulkar was towards the end of his Test career. Cut to 2021, and Panesar is still getting the better of Tendulkar, even if the nature of the competition doesn’t qualify as much more than ‘friendly’.
In the India Legends v England Legends clash in the Road Safety World Series, Panesar, 38, captured the India legend again, turning one sharply past his outside edge while drawing him out of his crease and having him stumped. This time, it was the pandemic-restricted crowd in Raipur that was silenced, bringing an end to Tendulkar’s nine-ball knock.
