Shaheen Shah Afridi gets David Willey with yorker

Watch: During the 2024 PSL, Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled a fast, accurate yorker that David Willey had no answer to.

Lahore Qalandars made 166-5 against Multan Sultans after Shaheen Shah Afridi opted to bat at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Rassie van der Dussen top-scored with a 37-ball 54. Fakhar Zaman took 36 balls for his 41 at the top, but breezy cameos from Sikandar Raza (23 in 16 balls), Jahandad Khan (16 in 9), and Carlos Brathwaite (15 not out in 8) helped Lahore put on a par score. Mohammad Ali had 2-28 and Usama Mir 1-25 from their four-over spells for the hosts.

The chase was not going to be easy against an attack containing Shaheen, Haris Rauf, and Zaman Khan, and Multan were 53-3 after eight overs. But captain Mohammad Rizwan (82 in 59 balls) stayed put at the top, with David Willey (25 in 23) for company.

Willey carried on after Rizwan fell as Iftikhar Ahmed took charge. That partnership ended when Shaheen, bowling from over the wicket, swung one back into the left-handed Willey. The movement was too swift for Willey, who keeled over in an attempt to put bat on ball to the yorker, and was given out leg-before.

Willey hobbled away and a review did not help him, as replays revealed that the ball would have clipped leg-stump.

Lahore kept Multan at bay until a point when they needed 21 in 11 balls, but Iftikhar hit the next five balls from Zaman for 4, 4, 6, 6, 4 to seal a five-wicket win.
