The IPL auction will be a ‘mega auction’ this time, with squads being built from near scratch, barring a few retained players. There are two new franchises – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – who will be a part of the IPL this year. 590 players will go under the hammer for the IPL auction this year: these include 370 Indian and 220 overseas players. A further 10 U19 players might be added to the final list, if reports are to be believed.

The most number of overseas players are from Australia (47). There are 34 players from the Caribbean, while 33 players from South Africa have made it to the mega-auction.

For the IPL 2022 auction, four of the teams have retained four players each, while the two new franchises each picked three players. After these retentions, the franchises have varying amounts of remaining budget to purchase players in the auction. Chennai Super Kings [CSK] have INR 48 crore in the kitty, while Punjab Kings [PBKS] have INR 72 crore.

The IPL auction will be telecast in India on the Star network. Telecast begins at 11am IST, while the auction itself is set to begin at 12pm IST.
