The first-ever Test in Roseau, Windsor Park, was also part of an India tour (2011). Twelve years later, only Virat Kohli, who debuted in that series, remains part of the touring party. Rahul Dravid has progressed to being the head coach. Much like this time, signs of a transition in their batting order had begun.

On paper and from recent records, India do certainly look the better side, but the Caribbean challenge certainly won’t come by easy. To start with, their pace attack remains formidable: Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph and Shannon Gabriel can all be a handful on their day. On the other side, India’s pace attack has a new look, with three to select out of Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Mukesh Kumar and Jaydev Unadkat.

Rohit Sharma has confirmed that Yashasvi Jaiswal will debut, with Shubman Gill taking up the No.3 spot. Further down, R Ashwin is likely to tie up with Ravindra Jadeja to challenge the home batting, still heavily reliant on Kraigg Brathwaite and Jason Holder.

The divide is clear: India are the No.1 ranked Test team in the world, while West Indies are eighth. This century, India have won every Test series against the West Indies (eight in a row), including four in the Caribbean. With a strong batting lineup and a spin attack that’s one of the finest in world cricket, India seem to be the clear favourites on paper.
