Watch: Ahrar Amin of took an outstanding catch during Bangladesh’s U19 World Cup 2024 opener, against India at Bloemfontein on January 20.

Bangladesh fielder Ahrar Amin took an excellent catch to dismiss Priyanshu Moliya in the U19 World Cup 2024 opener for both sides, at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

Asked to bat, India lost two early wickets before Adarsh Singh (76 in 96 balls) and captain Uday Saharan (64 in 94) added 116 for the third wicket. Wicketkeeper Aravelly Avanish then made a quick 17-ball 23.

In the 47th over, left-arm seamer Maruf Mridha bowled over the wicket, and Priyanshu Moliya attempted an almighty slog sweep. The ball took the top edge, covered some distance, and descended about halfway towards the deep fine-leg boundary.

With an eye on the ball, Ahrar ran backwards from fine leg. He covered ground, and eventually flung himself to grab the ball with both hands to complete an outstanding catch.

Sachin Dhas (26 not out in 20 balls) then took India to 251-7, while Mridha finished with 5-43. Bangladesh then slipped from 38-0 to 50-4, and were eventually bowled out for 167 despite a 77-run stand between Ariful Islam (41 in 71 balls) and Mohammad Shihab James (54 in 77).

Batting at No.5, Ahrar made five before Arshin Kulkarni trapped him leg-before. For India, Saumy Pandey finished with 4-24.
