On-field altercation, explosive social media posts – The complete sequence of events in the Sreesanth-Gambhir ‘fixer’ saga
The Sreesanth–Gautam Gambhir controversy has been the talk of the town ever since the two men clashed in the Eliminator of Legends League Cricket 2023. Here is how the entire sequence of events in the Sreesanth-Gambhir has panned out so far.
Sreesanth and Gambhir clash on the field
At the Eliminator of LLC 2023, Gambhir was leading India Capitals while Sreesanth was steaming in with the new ball for the Gujarat Giants.
In the second over, Gambhir smashed Sreesanth for a six and a four before the two got involved in an ugly spat that required the on-field umpires to intervene.
Immediately after the match, Sreesanth claims Gambhir abused him
Gujarat Giants failed to chase down the target of 224 despite Chris Gayle’s 55-ball 84. Immediately after the game, during the presentation ceremonies, Sreesanth posted a video on Instagram, claiming Gambhir had repeatedly abused him during their on-field spat.
Sreesanth called Gambhir “Mr Fighter”, accusing him of not respecting his colleagues. However, he did not reveal what exactly was said on the field. He also mentioned in the passing that Gambhir has a habit of steering clear of talking about Virat Kohli whenever he’s on broadcast.
Sreesanth’s wife questions Gambhir’s upbringing
Sreesanth’s wife commented under his video, expressing shock and anger. Without directly naming Gambhir, she questioned his upbringing: “After all upbringing matters a lot and it shows up when these kind of behaviour comes up on ground. Shocking truly shocking.”
Next morning, Sreesanth accuses Gambhir of calling him “fixer”
On the morning after the Eliminator (December 7), Sreesanth posted an elaborate video on Instagram, accusing Gambhir of repeatedly abusing him with the ‘F-word’ and calling him a ‘fixer’, and PR exercises to whitewash the issue and asks for support from fans.

Gambhir responds with a smile
A couple of hours after Sreesanth’s explosive accusations, Gambhir posted a picture of himself smiling across social media channels with the caption: “Smile when the world is all attention!”

Sreesanth continues the tirade, labels Gambhir ‘arrogant’ and ‘classless’
A few hours after Gambhir’s posts, Sreesanth added another explosive comment under Gambhir’s post. This time he accused Gambhir of exceeding boundaries, reminding that the latter did not have the authority to call him a ‘fixer’.
“You have exceeded the boundaries of a sportsman and a brother, and above all, you represent the people. Yet, you continue to engage in conflicts with every cricketer. What is the matter with you? All I did was smile and observe, and you labeled me a fixer? Seriously? Are you above the Supreme Court? You have no authority to speak in such a manner and say whatever you please.
“You even verbally abused the umpires, and yet you speak of smiling? You are an arrogant and utterly classless individual who lacks any form of respect for those who supported you.
“Deep down, you know that what you said and did was wrong. Im sure even God wont forgive you. You didn’t even come to the field after that..Come on, God is watching everything.”
