Watch: Glenn Maxwell took a stunning, reflex-action return catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma during the third India-Australia ODI in Rajkot today (September 27), and was shocked at his own skills.

Chasing a massive total of 353, India started off briskly with Rohit taking the Australia attack to the cleaners in the first powerplay. He hit two cracking inside out sixes off Mitchell Starc, and multiple trademark pull shots over the boundary.

By the end of the seventh over, Rohit had already hit five sixes, two more than he has ever hit inside the first seven overs of the innings in his ODI career.

Rohit reached his fifty off just 31 balls in the tenth over. In an opening partnership of 78 with Washington Sundar, the India captain contributed 55.  After 20 overs, India were cruising at nearly seven runs per over, with the score reading 135-1. Rohit was batting on 75 off 54 and was looking set for a big score.

However, an act of sheer brilliance by Maxwell off his own bowling put an end to Rohit’s innings in the 21st over. A flat length ball on the stumps was hammered back down the ground by Rohit, but he wasn’t able to get the elevation he would have wanted.

Maxwell stuck his right hand out and removed his head from the firing line of the ball. Luckily for him, the ball found the middle of his palm even as he looked away. He was surprised at himself and seemed to take a while to come to terms with the fact that he had caught the ball.

Rohit was dismissed for 81 off 57 balls. A few overs later, Maxwell also got rid of Virat Kohli for 56, having already taken Sundar’s wicket for 18 earlier.
