Watch: Cameron Green run out in dozy fashion after failing to ground bat, shakes head in frustration

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Watch: Cameron Green succumbed to a dozy run-out, failing to ground his bat in time and getting caught short by a direct hit in the second ODI at Indore today (September 24).

Australia were already up against it when Green’s fatal error occurred, placed at 135-6 chasing 317 in 33 overs in a rain-affected game.

The all-rounder, who had struggled with the ball, conceding 103 in his 10 overs, had made 19 off 13 when Sean Abbott inside-edged into his pads and called him through for a single.

Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan raced round, picked up and threw down the stumps, but Green still looked to have made his ground. However, replays revealed that, while his bat was over the crease when the ball hit the stumps, his decision to place his bat rather than slide it had cost him; Green had grounded his bat just after the stumps had lit up, and he was sent on his way.

The highly-rated all-rounder has struggled in all formats in recent times. His last ODi half-century came over a year ago, and he hasn’t reached fifty in any format since the 2023 Indian Premier League.
