India have won the toss and elected to field first in the first match of the five-match T20I series against Australia at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam today (November 23).

India and Australia meet once again four days after clashing in the 2023 World Cup final, albeit this time in the shortest format. The first T20I in Visakhapatnam between India and Australia marks the beginning of a five-match series. Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Raipur, and Bengaluru will host the next four matches.

Suryakumar Yadav won his first toss as India captain in Visakhapatnam and has elected to field first. This will be the 27th T20I between the two sides, with India having the overall edge with 15 victories compared to 10 for Australia.

Yadav became the 13th player to lead India in T20Is. Axar Patel, who missed out on the World Cup squad, has returned from injury and will occupy the all-rounder’s spot at No.7. Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna are the only two others from the World Cup squad who will feature in this match for India.

Australia have rested several of their players who played in the World Cup, including their Player of the Match in the two knockout games, Travis Head. Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell have also been rested while Matthew Short, Aaron Hardie, and Tim David have got games.
