Watch: Virat Kohli playfully jabbed Shubman Gill in the groin during a mid-pitch discussion in the World Cup 2023 match between India and Sri Lanka on October 2.

Kohli and Gill stitched together an 189-run stand for the second wicket after India lost Rohit Sharma cheaply while batting first in Wankhede. The sweltering heat of Mumbai took a toll on them as they were taking several breathers in between the partnership.

During one such break, when Kohli was on his knees stretching out to battle cramps, he pulled a prank on his batting partner. Kohli poked a standing Gill right in his crotch with the end of his bat. Gill was taken aback by the suddenness, bending over in pain. However, to avoid embarrassment, or perhaps to show he was in on the joke all along, he quickly masked his discomfort with a stretching drill, fist-bumping Kohli in the next moment to return to the crease.

Gill fell for a run-a-ball 92, while Kohli departed 12 runs short of his 49th ODI ton.
