Watch: Roelof van der Merwe grabbed onto a stunning one-handed low catch to dismiss Steve Smith during the 2023 World Cup game between the Netherlands and Australia on October 25 (Wednesday).

Roelof van der Merwe’s catch of David Warner was overturned as he was not in control of the ball before grounding it. Four balls later, van der Merwe successfully managed to hang onto a stunner that dismissed Steve Smith. On the third ball of the 24th over, Smith cut a short ball from spinner Aryan Dutt to point.

Van der Merwe bent down to stop the ball, but had probably not anticipated the speed at which it was coming to him. The ball stuck in his right hand as the fielders went up in celebration. The TV umpires ruled it a clean catch and Smith had to walk back for a 68-ball 71.
