Watch: Rahmat Shah of Afghanistan took an outstanding one-handed catch during their 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh at Dharamsala.

Asked to bat at Dharamsala, Afghanistan raced to 47-0 in 8.1 overs, then 83-1 in 15, before collapsing to 156 in 37.2 overs against Mehidy Hasan Miraz (3-25) and Shakib Al Hasan (3-30).

The Bangladesh seamers had a shaky start, but came back well to share the other four wickets. For Afghanistan, only Rahmanullah Gurbaz (47) went past 25.

Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das within 27 in response, but Mehidy and Najmul Hossain Shanto virtually shut Afghanistan out of the game with a 97-run stand.

The partnership ended when Mehidy tried to loft Naveen-ul-Haq over Rahmat Shah at mid-off. Since he did not middle the shot, the ball did not fly off the bat, but at the same time, the ball swerved away from the fielder.

Rahmat timed his jump – and stretch of his hand – to perfection and clung on to the ball. He fell on the ground, and TV umpire Hasan Raza had to be summoned to verify the legitimacy of the catch. Raza ruled out, and Mehidy walked back for 57.

Azmatullah Omarzai then got Shakib, but Shanto (59 not out) stayed put, and Bangladesh won with six wickets and 92 balls in hand.
