Pakistan have the highest catch efficiency in the 2023 World Cup, successfully latching onto 31 of the 37 chances that have come their way, according to the ICC.

Pakistan have dropped only six catches in the event, making them the most successful catching side in the World Cup. In a graphic displayed during the India-Sri Lanka match, Pakistan are followed by the Netherlands as the team that have held onto the most catches in the competition, with 86 percent.

Babar Azam’s team had a catch efficiency of 79 percent when the list was first released, on October 18, but they have improved in the department since then even as results have not gone their way. Pakistan lost four matches in a row before ending the streak with a comfortable win at Eden Gardens.

Among the six drops for Pakistan, two were costly. Imam-ul-Haq dropped Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis on 18, who then went on to make 123. Against Australia, Usama Mir let go of an easy catch of David Warner on 10, who then made 150 more runs. While Pakistan won against Sri Lanka in a record run chase, they could never recover after Warner’s onslaught.

The Netherlands have dropped six out of 33 catches that have come their way, while India have also dropped six of 25. India, England and South Africa have a catch efficiency of 81 percent in the World Cup, with Bangladesh next, with a success rate of 76 percent.

Australia, Afghanistan and New Zealand are at the bottom of the table, with a catch efficiency of 71 percent, While Australia have grabbed 17 of the 29 catches that have come their way, Afghanistan have plucked only 12 of the 20 catches. New Zealand have dropped 16 of 40 chances.

Earlier, Virat Kohli was named as the most impactful fielder at the World Cup, with a rating point of 22.30.
