India launched their jersey for the 2023 ICC men’s World Cup on September 20. Here is a look back at the Indian jersey at every edition of the men’s World Cup.

India have been a part of every edition of the men’s World Cup, since 1975. The first four editions were played in white clothes, as was the norm back then. The 1992 World Cup was the first one where teams sported coloured jerseys.

India began with a dark shade of blue in the 1992 World Cup before transitioning to a lighter shade over the years. Here is a look at India Men’s jerseys at each World Cup edition.

1992

At the 1992 World Cup, the teams wore jerseys of different colours but of similar pattern. India sported a dark blue jersey with horizontal stripes of four different colours at the back, with the player names in yellow. They reused the vintage jersey for some time since 2020.

1996

India went from dark to light blue in 1996, where the teams had jerseys of a similar pattern yet again. India had a wide yellow stripe around the chest with ‘India’ written in light blue to match the rest of the jersey.

1999

The 1999 edition had all teams sporting jerseys with the emblems of their respective cricket boards printed in bold across the front. India had a light blue kit with BCCI crest printed diagonally through the front of the jersey in yellow.

2003

India reached the final of the World Cup for the first time since their victory in 1983. They repeated the characteristic light blue hues, albeit with a tinge of black on the sides and the shoulders. The team name was written at the front over a background of the Indian tricolour.

2007

One of India’s worst World Cup performances came in 2007, when they were knocked out in the first round. They sported a traditional light blue jersey at the tournament with a curved tricolour stripe running down the right side.

2011

India’s only triumph at the World Cup with coloured jerseys came in 2011, the last time the tournament was held in the subcontinent. They had a slightly darker shade of blue compared to 2007, with the team name, player name, and jersey numbers written in orange.

2015

The 2015 Indian jersey turned even darker with fine vertical patterns printed across the front of the jersey.

2019

India’s last ODI World Cup jersey had a minimalistic design with a darkish shade of blue and a thin, slanting orange stripe on either side. In a shift from the previous jerseys, the collars in the 2019 edition were orange from the inside.

India also had an away jersey in the 2019 edition which they wore against England. The design was the same as the other jersey, but the colours – blue and orange, were much more prominent and darker.

2023

Adidas launched India’s jersey for the 2023 World Cup on September 20. The traditional blue shade is perhaps slightly lighter than the 2019 jersey. The iconic three stripes synonymous to Adidas have been changed from the traditional white to the Indian tricolour. The jersey also has finely printed patterns across the front.
