Rohit Sharma’s explosive start to the 2023 World Cup and Quinton de Kock’s back-to-back centuries have pushed them up the ICC’s men’s ODI batting rankings.

In the latest update to the rankings after the third round of competition, Rohit has made a five-place jump into the top ten, sitting at sixth position. He now sits on 719 points, seven ahead of David Warner below and ten behind fifth-placed Harry Tector. Rohit made up for his six-ball duck in India’s opening match of the tournament against Australia with the fastest hundred ever by an India player in men’s ODI World Cups against Afghanistan. He then smashed a rapid half-century against Pakistan to continue his side’s perfect start.

De Kock has also risen up the rankings after scoring centuries in both of South Africa’s opening matches. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 100 off 84 balls in South Africa’s record-breaking total against Sri Lanka, before hitting 109 off 106 against Australia. His century streak ended in South Africa’s shock defeat to the Netherlands, however, when he was out for 20 and started a top-order collapse. De Kock has risen three places in the rankings and now sits in third place, overtaking teammate Rassie van der Dussen. He is still some way off Shubman Gill in second, with a 76-point gap to bridge.

Elsewhere in the batting rankings, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has jumped 19 spots into 18th after his quick-fire half-century against England. Netherlands’ captain Scott Edwards has risen 16 spots into 27th after his unbeaten 78 off 69 balls inspired his side’s victory over South Africa.

In the bowler’s table, Trent Boult has closed the gap to Josh Hazlewood in top spot. The New Zealand left-armer is now within one point of No.1, after moving up one place into second position. That’s pushed Mohammad Siraj down into third place, after Boult bowled a destructive spell against Bangladesh. He dismissed Litton Das with the first ball of the match and got rid of Towhid Hridoy, finishing with figures of 2-45.

Jasprit Bumrah has also moved up the rankings, rising seven places into 14th after his devastating spell against Pakistan. Kagiso Rabada has moved up one position to alongside Bumrah, after taking his 150th ODI wicket against the Netherlands.

Rashid Khan now occupies fourth place on the bowler rankings, and is the top-ranked spinner after moving up two positions. In the all-rounder rankings, Shakib Al Hasan remains firmly in the top spot, with Mitchell Santner (6th) and Glenn Maxwell (8th) both moving up after impressive starts to the World Cup.
