Pakistan miss stumping, run out, concede overthrows

Watch: In a bizarre passage of ordinary fielding against Australia in the first Test, Pakistan missed a stumping and a run out, and conceded an overthrow – all off the same ball.

Having won the toss at the Perth Stadium, Australia blazed away to a rapid start, largely due to David Warner’s onslaught. Warner’s 211-ball 164 was his 26th Test hundred.

However, none of his teammates reached fifty as Pakistan kept eating away at the wickets, albeit mostly to aggressive strokes.

Salman Ali Agha flighted the first ball of the 64th over outside the off-stump. Warner stepped out, but the ball turned more than he had anticipated. Fortunately for Warner, it bounced and fizzed through as well, and came too quickly for wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed to react.

The ball ricocheted off Sarfraz’s gloves to Babar Azam at first slip. Noticing Warner was still outside the crease, Babar attempted to hit the stumps but somehow missed at point-blank range, and the ball trickled towards mid-on.

Having parked his bat safely inside the crease by now, Warner now called for a bye. At the close of play on Day One at the Optus Stadium, Australia reached 346-5 with Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey unbeaten on 15 and 14 respectively.
