Australia named an extended 17-member squad for the four-match Test series against India – here’s all you need to know.
Australia have named a strong 17-man squad for their marquee Test series against India, and also named a quality Australia A squad for the warm-up matches for the upcoming tour.
The Test squad comprised as many as five uncapped players, including Will Pucovski and Cameron Green, with the selectors favouring players who have impressed so far in the Sheffield Shield 2020/21. Sean Abbott, Mitchell Swepson and Michael Neser were the other uncapped players in the squad.

Of the five uncapped players, Pucovski seems a favourite to start, having hit successive double-centuries in the Sheffield Shield, and is directly in contention with Joe Burns for the openers spot.
“Two of those many standout players were of course Cameron Green and Will Pucovski. Their undeniable form demanded selection and we are very pleased to have these young men in the squad for what will be a tremendous Test Series against an extremely formidable opponent,” selectors chief Trevor Hohns said in a statement.
“Cameron has already won selection in the white-ball squad and continues that in joining the Test squad. He is a wonderful young talent who has great potential to become an allrounder of substance over time. His batting alone has demanded his place in the squad.”

Pat Cummins was named vice-captain of the side as Australia shifted away from their dual-vice captaincy system. Travis Head lost his position as vice-captain as a result, but Hohns said it wasn’t a reflection on his standing in the team.
The Australia A squad had as many as 19 players, including nine players who were also part of the Test squad.
