Six teams will be participating in the 2023 Asia Cup starting August 30. Here’s all you need to know about the Asia Cup squads of each team, including full team lists, player news, and injury updates.

The 2023 Asia Cup will be the 16th edition of the tournament. It will be hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board but will be played across Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the majority of the games, including the final being played in Sri Lanka.

The six participating teams include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal. This will be the first time that Nepal will be seen in action in Asia Cup history. The tournament will be played in the 50-over format as a precursor to the ODI World Cup after the previous edition was played in the T20 format in 2022 where Sri Lanka emerged victorious.

Asia Cup 2023: Team news for each team

India have named their 17-member squad which marks the comebacks of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna to the ODI side after injuries. They have left out Yuzvendra Chahal and have given a maiden call-up to Tilak Varma.

Pakistan have left out Shan Masood and pace sensation Ihsanullah from their Asia Cup squad while all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has made a comeback. Their fast bowling unit of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Wasim Jnr will be in focus again.

Bangladesh have named Shakib Al Hasan as their captain for the Asia Cup after regular ODI captain Tamim Iqbal stepped down from the role. Iqbal won’t be available for the Asia Cup as he has been ruled out with a back injury. Veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad, meanwhile, has been dropped from the side.

Afghanistan have had to leave out all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai after he suffered an injury in the ODI series against Pakistan. They have recalled Karim Janat in his place apart from making a few other changes to the squad that played against Pakistan.

Sri Lanka have had to name a severely depleted squad since many of their first-choice bowlers are injured. Wanindu Hasaranga, their lead spinner is out with a thigh strain, while fast bowlers Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara, and Dilshan Madushanka are all suffering from various injuries.

Nepal will be led by Rohit Paudel. Off-spinner Mousom Dhakal, who is yet to make his senior international debut, has been called up to the squad for the Asia Cup.
