Ashes 2023, Old Trafford Test: News and updates

England have replaced Ollie Robinson with Anderson for the Old Trafford Test match. Anderson had been rested at Headingley following two poor outings at Edgbaston and Lord’s. He will be back at his home ground to partner Broad, Wood, and Woakes in England’s seam attack. Moeen, meanwhile, is set to continue at No.3, allowing Brook to retain his place at No.5.

Australia have made two changes to their XI, bringing Hazlewood back in place of a lacklustre Scott Boland. Green is fit as well. After a lot of debate around how they can fit him and Marsh in the XI together, Australia have decided to leave out Todd Murphy and go with an all-seam attack with Carrey set to bat as low as No.8.

Ashes 2023, Old Trafford Test: Match prediction

The series is interestingly poised at 2-1 in favour of Australia. However, all three games have been extremely close and England now have the momentum with them after their victory at Headingley.

It’s hard to say that one particular team would be the absolute favourites, but given how this series has gone, it wouldn’t be surprising if England win this one and make it 2-2 to set up for a cracking finale at the Kia Oval.
