Watch: Ryan Parag showed excellent awareness while fielding at slip in the Emerging Asia Cup yesterday (July 21), running from slip before the ball bounced to catch a reverse-sweep from Rakibul Hasan.

India A beat Bangladesh A in the semifinal of the Emerging Asia Cup by 51 runs after Bangladesh A were bowled out for 160 chasing 211. Parag teamed up with Nishant Sindhu to take the eighth wicket of Bangladesh A’s innings, dismissing Rakibul off his first ball at the crease.

Sindhu bowled a flighted delivery which Rakibul attempted to reverse-sweep. Parag was fielding at slip when he saw Rakibul shape up early to play the shot. Anticipating where the ball would go, Parag starting running wider to his left before the ball had even bounced as Rakibul looked to get to the pitch of the ball and sweep it behind square.

His anticipation was spot on as the ball pinged straight off Rakibul’s bat and into Parag’s hands. The catch, off the last ball of the over, put Sindhu on a hattrick. While he was not able to complete it from the first ball of his next over, he did make it three wickets in four balls by dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy with his second. That wicket also gave him five in the match.

Bangladesh A had been going well in their chase at 100-2 by the 18 over mark, but an almighty collapse saw them lose four wickets for 34 runs. The final four wickets of their innings fell for just four runs in less than three overs.

India A will face Pakistan A in the final of the tournament tomorrow (July 23).
