Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle, who is unavailable for commentary duties for the World Test Championship final, hit back at a publication for suggesting he was ‘snubbed’ from the panel for the India-New Zealand WTC Test.

On June 15, Bhogle tweeted that he had decided to opt out of the commentary panel for the WTC final even though he was “hoping to be in Southampton this week”, due to quarantine requirements which would force him to be “27-28 days” away for one match. While suggesting that he had spent considerable time in bio-bubbles in previous stints, and being mindful of the workload in the future, he had decided to spend more time at home.

The following day, a tweet from a publication emerged, which listed down the eight-member strong commentary list for the WTC final, suggesting that Bhogle had been “snubbed”. The headline read: “Ind vs NZ WTC Final: Sunil Gavaskar, Dinesh Karthik to commentate, Harsha Bhogle snubbed.”

Quoting the tweet, Bhogle replied: “Do you want to delete this? Because it is untrue. Or are you comfortable with that?”

He followed it with another tweet, saying “The headline?”

The publication later apologised, putting up a revised link with the headline saying “Harsha Bhogle pulls out of ICC WTC final commentary team”.

The World Test Championship final, beginning June 18, will see an eight-member strong team for English commentary. The full list of broadcast details (TV channels and live streaming options) can be found here.
