The Royal Challengers Bangalore scripted history by winning the second edition of the Women’s Premier League, defeating Delhi Capitals in the final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium by eight wickets.
Having been asked to bowl first, RCB were put under extreme pressure early on by the opening pair of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, before Verma’s wicket initiated a collapse of epic proportions. Delhi were eventually bowled out for 113 with Shreyanka Patil taking 4-12.
In response, each of the RCB top three reached 30. They took their time, but chased down the low target comfortably with three balls and eight wickets to spare. This became the RCB franchise’s first triumph in any tournament.

Kohli, who has been associated with the franchise ever since its inception in 2008, congratulated the women by video calling and speaking to them after the match.
Smriti Mandhana, the RCB skipper, said in the post-match press conference that while she wasn’t able to hear much of what Kohli said due to the noise, he looked happy and that she plans to meet him in Bengaluru.
“I didn’t hear anything he was saying because it was too loud,” Mandhana said. “He was like just thumbs up and I just did thumbs up. I will be meeting him. He looked happy, there was a bright smile.
“He has been a part of the franchise, I think he has been there for the past 15 years, so I could see that happiness on his face…Maybe I will chat with him when we go to Bengaluru.”
