After co-hosting the World Cup in 1987 (with Pakistan), 1996 (with Pakistan and Sri Lanka), and 2011 (with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh), India will host a World Cup on their own, in 2023.
Ten teams will play 45 round-robin league matches across ten venues, in Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
Mumbai and Kolkata will host the semi-finals, and Ahmedabad the final (as well as the tournament opener).

India’s third-oldest Test match venue hosted two matches in the 1987 World Cup. Australia beat India by one run in the first and Zimbabwe by 96 runs in the second; they also went on to beat New Zealand by six wickets in the 1996 quarter-final.
Chennai hosted four matches in 2011. After New Zealand beat Kenya by 10 wickets, England won two close clashes – against South Africa by six runs, and against the West Indies, by 18 runs. India also beat the West Indies there, by 80 runs.
In an encore of the 1987 edition, India and Australia (undefeated at the venue) clash in their respective tournament openers at Chennai, on October 9.
This will be followed by two matches for New Zealand (against Bangladesh and Afghanistan). Afghanistan play another match as well, the much-anticipated clash against Pakistan; as do Pakistan, against South Africa.
Chennai completes their fixtures by October 27 – in other words, within 22 days of the 45-day World Cup.
