Watch: Faf du Plessis hilariously mixed up Royal Challenger Bangalore’s slogan, mistakenly saying the team would not win a cup in 2023, leaving Virat Kohli in splits during a team event.
RCB’s slogan in Kannada is “Ee Saala Cup Namde” or “The Cup will be ours this year.” During a pre-match event, skipper du Plessis was asked to mention the slogan, for which he needed help from Kohli, who was seated beside him.
Kohli seemingly whispered the words to du Plessis, but he committed a blunder as he said, “Ee Saala Cup Nahi”, or “The Cup will not be ours this year,” leaving Kohli in splits and the fans laughing as well.
Du Plessis, on the other hand, seemed unaware of the mix-up, as he offered an ignorant grin upon muttering the slogan. Du Plessis was named the captain of the side last year after Kohli stepped down from the post after the 2021 season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have not won an IPL trophy in 15 years, despite having reached the final thrice, and the playoffs on eight occasions. They have made the top four in the last three seasons, and finished as the third-best team in IPL 2022, after winning the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants. However, they lost in Qualifier 2 to Rajasthan Royals.
