Watch: Musheer Khan, younger brother of Sarfaraz, slammed an outstanding century on day three of the Ranji Trophy final between Mumbai and Vidarbha at Wankhede Stadium.

Two weeks past his 19th birthday, Musheer Khan became the youngest Mumbai batter to score a hundred in a Ranji Trophy final. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who scored twin hundreds in the 1994/95 season final against Punjab to lead Mumbai to a title win.

Having secured a 119-run lead, Mumbai lost opener Prithvi Shaw cheaply on the second evening when Musheer walked out. He finished the day on 51, and reached his century off 255 balls in the 91st over, on the third morning, by flicking a length ball off Yash Thakur behind square for two. He became emotional as he took off his helmet to celebrate his landmark.

Musheer has been in a rich vein of form of late. Against Baroda in the Ranji quarter-final, he converted his maiden first-class ton into a double-hundred. He became the second youngest Mumbai batter to achieve this feat behind Wasim Jaffer.

Musheer was also India’s second-highest run-scorer – 360 runs at an average of 60 – in the recently concluded Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.
