Musheer Khan, the brother of prolific Indian domestic batter Sarfaraz Khan, notched up a rapid 127* off just 47 deliveries in the final of the Under-19 Quadrangular Tournament featuring India U19 A, India U19 B, Bangladesh U19 and England U19.

A couple of days after being named in India’s Under 19 Asia Cup squad, Musheer Khan has continued to deliver the goods. Playing for India U19 A  in the final of the Quadrangular Under-19 series at the DVR Ground in Malpadu, near Vijayawada, Musheer notched up a blistering hundred against India U19 B, helping his team to the title. The hard-hitting teenager clobbered as many as 13 sixes besides his six fours.

While defending the mammoth score, he inflicted a crucial run-out of India U19 B opener Rudra Patel who was in ominous touch, scoring a blazing 71 off just 45 balls, before picking up the prized scalps of S Mohamed Ali (43 off 58) and Sachin Dhas (7 off 15) with his effective left-arm orthodox spin. The all-rounder finished his quota of overs with figures of 2-53.

Ansh Gosai, en route to his counter-attacking innings of 115 (85), involving eight over boundaries and five fours, created some nerves in the India U19 A camp. However, his side were eventually bowled out for 293 runs in 48.1 overs, handing India U19 A a comprehensive 66-run victory.

While speaking to the Times of India, Musheer was grateful to everybody who has helped him in his journey: “I want to thank the Almighty for my selection in the India Under-19 team. I’m very excited that my dream has been fulfilled. I don’t want to look back from here.

“I want to thank my abbu (father and coach Naushad Khan), the Mumbai Cricket Association, the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy and all those who’ve helped me improve my game on this journey so far. I want to give my best and ensure that we win the Asia Cup.”

Musheer signed off the competition, scoring 322 runs at an average of 80.50 and an unrivalled strike rate of 176.92, including two fifties and a hundred. He also picked 12 wickets from seven games at 24 apiece while conceding just 4.57 an over.

Despite a career of just three first-class matches, he is the only Mumbai player selected to represent India in the upcoming -U9 Asia Cup in Dubai because of his prolific form.
