After being sent to bat first, Australia openers Khawaja and Steve Smith formed a 61-run stand before Henry snared the latter for 31 to wicketkeeper Tom Blundell to hand New Zealand their first breakthrough. Marnus Labuschagne, coming at No.3, couldn’t add much as he was dismissed for a run.
Against a settled Khawaja, batting then on 33 off 117, Henry came to bowl the 41st over with the tourists at 88-2. The first ball was a dot as the Khawaja left a full one outside off.
The second delivery was a jaffa, pegging back Khawaja’s middle stump to restrict him from converting his start. It was full on off, swinging into Khawaja. The southpaw batter was undone by the exaggerated movement, as evident from his left hand coming off the grip while trying to cover the swing in his follow-through.
Henry finished the day with 4-43 off his 20 overs with Cameron Green scoring a fine century to hole out Australia from 89-4 to 279-9.
