Gurbaz, the in-form opener who made a match-winning 80 in the win against England, started off cautiously against the Kiwis in the run chase of 289, hitting one boundary – a six – during his 21-ball stay at the crease. The maximum came off Henry in the sixth over of the innings, when Gurbaz smashed it over the bowler’s head for an 85-metre hit.
Henry, however, bounced back two balls later, knocking Gurbaz’s stumps to give New Zealand the early advantage. The good length ball seamed in and skidded on slightly, which Gurbaz looked to play away safely. He was unsuccessful as he ended up getting a thick outside edge onto the stumps, leading to his dismissal for 11.
The wicket saw Henry celebrate animatedly, letting out a huge roar as he picked up his first wicket of the game. Afghanistan fell to 27-1 after the wicket and were soon reduced to 43-3 in 14 overs. New Zealand ultimately secured a routine victory to take them to the top of the table.
